This long-term strategy aimed to strengthen the economic, environmental and social benefits of recreation related to mountain biking in the Outer Eastern Region of Victoria. The study focused on Council, Crown and freehold land across four council areas. Engagement with key stakeholders was a key component of the project and included consultation with Yarra Ranges Shire Council, Baw Baw Shire Council, City of Casey, Murrindindi Shire Council, Nillumbik Shire Council, Parks Victoria, Melbourne Water, The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and the Southern Alpine Resort Management Board.
The recommendations focused on delivering high-quality trail experiences; an inclusive approach; prioritising environmental stewardship; creating sustainable management and maintenance frameworks; and pursuing a collaborative approach across councils, land managers, user groups, community and relevant stakeholders. Penny led this project on behalf of TRC.
